Road Safety

03 May 2013

We are currently working with PiPS to look at improving road safety around the school. There are various suggestions that could make a difference - please complete this survey to say which ones you think should happen. The list of suggestions is below - have a look at them and have your say!
  1. Zebra Crossing at junction between Paganel Rd and Swinford Rd
  2. Change position of fencing so that pedestrians aren’t forced to cross so close to the junction between Paganel Rd and Swinford Rd
  3. Place bollard at junction between Paganel Rd and Swinford Rd to prevent drivers from turning round where pedestrians need to cross.
  4. Lollipop lady to aid crossing
  5. Zebra crossing at back entrance to school (this would probably only be necessary if option 10 was put into place.
  6. Fencing /bollards along pavement edge on Swinford Rd to prevent people parking on/driving along pavement, and to encourage pedestrians to cross at one point rather than many points.
  7. Traffic calming measures such as sleeping policemen/speedbumps/slalem to slow traffic on Swinford Rd.
  8. ‘School zone’ signs and 20mph zone along Swinford Rd from junction with Stonehouse Hill up till roundabout with Bottetourt Rd.
  9. Zebra crossing on Swinford Rd.
  10. One-way system around school island (Paganel, Swinford and Bottetourt Rds) to limit traffic around school, prevent problems of cars trying to pass each other on narrow stretch outside school, stop use of road as a ‘rat-run’ through from Selly Oak to new supermarket, and to improve traffic flow on this stretch of road.
  11. Re-open section of Bottetourt Rd through to Alwold Rd, again to reduce use of Swinford Rd as a rat-run through to new supermarket.
